Bulldog Travels

People travel at other times of the year, but many of you are travelling this summer. Customer S.K. for instance is in Turkey. We'd love to hear about your travels, and would especially like your Bulldog pictures from other places.

To start us off, I'm putting up this picture of what the proper Seattleite takes camping. (photo courtesy of DWMcKeehen)

Yes I know that hidden is a (gasp!) Folger's plastic container, but inside it is good freshly ground Equal Exchange coffee. Because you can't always count on your grinder. Later I hope to put up a picture of what desperate coffee drinkers use in the field to grind their coffee with, when they have beans but not a grinder.

Travel Mugs with Jackets - new style

New style of travel mugs, I may try them out on my next trip. These have jackets that zip with a big loop, or leash, or what-have-you. The small ones are $8.95, the large ones are $12.95.

Other new titles we've been waiting for

...and a few surprises.

Stringtown, local literary.

Antioch Review returns.

Meatpaper, by two former vegetarians in San Francisco.

TPM, or the philosopher's magazine.

oops! The Inner Swine snuck into the picture again!

Seattle Tilth's Northwest Maritime Gardening Guide. (you might ask Maelin how her worm bin is doing.)

And two additions to our music section, Tape Ops and Ugly Things (with The Kinks on the cover).

Hobo Magazine, the return of

Through the whims of magazine land, the arrival of new issues of Hobo has been hit or miss. Sometimes we have joked about just driving up to Vancouver and picking copies up directly from the folks who create and publish Hobo. The latest issue is here at Bulldog, a little late, but still good. You can find issue #12 in the Photography section.

One could argue that pop culture might be more suitable, but it seems happier in photography. Hobo's website has a fair amount of text from previous issues, most recently Sonic Youth, Jeanne Moreau, Ethan Hawke, Guy Maddin, and the one I would most have liked to see, Justine Kurland. Their blog, Hobo Journal, is heavy on photography and light on text.

Come browse the magazine for yourself, and decide.

French day!

Hey it was French day! Many of our monthly titles from France came in (via Canada). We also had TPM (The Philosopher's Magazine), Mystery Scene, Time Out London (spring-summer), and I tossed in the new Elle (Spain) as well.

Early July Titles

A few titles from early July, some regulars, some new, some offbeat.

Vanity Fair has something for everyone. Dennis Hopper's last inteview, architecture, Angelina, and Maureen Dowd.

The latest issue of The Inner Swine came in. He has a website and a blog. As you can probably see from the picture, it is a traditional low tech zine. Ink on paper, staples, two bucks. But Inner Swine is still around, he even has perfectbound collections. The cover states: "I am old. Old, old, old; More complaining than usual; More fiction than usual; More country music than usual...." We usually sell out, so check it out in the literary section with the other zines.

Monocle with the annula July-August double issue, 25 Most Livable Cities.

Ode has an article on urban farming.

Apartamento is new to us, in the fun smaller format.

Scarlet, another new title to us, from the UK. A racier answer to Red.

And Boundary Waters Journal, just for me. Because I like canoes, and still hope to go there some day.
